It’s time for you to decide the year’s best in heavy music

There isn’t a metal fan in the world without an opinion on who is good and who isn’t. It’s part of what makes this scene so vibrant and exciting. It’s what makes festival line-ups the cause of social media meltdown and the reason we will, for better or worse, always consider ourselves to be in our own corner of society.

And that’s fine. We’ll debate it over a beer before a show, we don’t fight about it. But we don’t always get the chance to shout about the bands or individuals we really do think deserve an extra pat on the back, either.

That’s why we’ve launched the Heavy Music Awards – an entirely independent vehicle to democratically crown the best of the year in heavy music.

Our panel of respected and knowledgable individuals from across the music industry make their picks for the year, then we collate those picks to create lists of finalists. You, the public, then vote to pick the overall winners. No politics, no input from us – just a genuinely democratic voting system.

Public voting opens 22 May 2017.
