Believe Backs Best UK Breakthrough Band Category for HMA19

Distribution and marketing services powerhouse Believe is back for the Heavy Music Awards 2019, stepping up their previous involvement to back the Best UK Breakthrough Band category.

Nathan Barley Phillips, Artist Relations TuneCore / Believe UK, said, “We are delighted to be returning as an award category sponsor for the Heavy Music Awards 2019!

“The HMAs is a uniquely democratic event with a great ethos, giving recognition to artists at all stages of their careers. As a company that shares this supportive ethos with the label and artist services that we provide, we couldn’t be happier to continue championing this event!”

HMAs co-founder Andy Pritchard said, “In addition to continued success across multiple genres – not least with the likes of HMA18 Best Album winners While She Sleeps – the team at Believe understand the changing landscape of this industry and approach it in a way that is both innovative and effective, and valuable to the HMAs audience.

“We’re so excited to welcome Believe back to the Heavy Music Awards for 2019, and to unveil our plans for collaboration in the run-up to August’s event.”

The Breakthrough Band categories have offered up an electrifying mix of finalists since the inception of the HMAs in 2017. The inaugural award was taken by I Prevail, before a split to separate UK and International categories in 2018 won by Milk Teeth and Knocked Loose respectively.

Pirate Studios Back Best UK Breakthrough Award at HMA18

Pirate Studios – which boasts 18 state-of-the-art recording centres in the UK and New York City – is sponsoring the Best UK Breakthrough Band at HMA18.

The company – which offers studio space from £4 per hour – is a champion for emerging talent and jumped at the chance of backing the UK Breakthrough category.

David Borrie, Co-Founder of Pirate Studios, said: “It’s exciting to see how the metal, extreme and heavy scenes continue to develop with growing diversity as greater access to music inspires some incredible new bands.

“Pirate Studios are immensely proud to support all seven of the finalists in the Best UK Breakthrough Band category. Supporting emerging talent is absolutely fundamental to what we are about and the Heavy Music Awards are celebrating some of the best new acts coming through. Here’s to heavy music.”

Heavy Music Awards Return for 2018

The dust has barely settled on the first ever Heavy Music Awards, but today we are very excited to announce the event will return in 2018 with a full programme across the calendar year which will shine an even brighter light on the heavy music scene’s incredible talent both on and off stage.

Earlier this year, the inaugural HMAs received almost 100,000 votes from the public and crowned its first winners in August – Architects (Best Album), Enter Shikari (Best Live Band), Ghost (Best Album Artwork), Black Sabbath (Best UK Band), Gojira (Best International Band), I Prevail (Best Breakthrough Band), O2 Academy Brixton (Best Venue), Ben Gibson (Best Photographer), Download Festival (Best Festival), and Fredrik Nordström + Henrik Udd (Best Producer).

We’re not giving the whole game away just yet, but we can reveal HMA18 will once again take place in London on Thursday 23 August 2018, with a number of additional announcements due in the coming months.

New Categories

We’ve also given the categories a little reworking to underline our philosophy of giving exposure to up-and-coming artists alongside the established heavyweights. With that in mind, we’ve split the Best Breakthrough Band category in two – to create Best UK Breakthrough Band and Best International Breakthrough Band.

In addition, with more and more festival goers travelling abroad, we have opened nominations for Best Festival to the whole world.

We’ll be back with more announcements very, very soon.
