Peu Cheung

ADA / Warner Music UK

Raised on a healthy mix of Motown, disco, ABBA, Prince and Queen as a kid – Peu was surrounded by music since nappy days thanks to her music-loving father who had no idea all the years of choreographing dance-moves together to music vids on TOTP would inspire her in adulthood to work in music. With a first class honours in music and media management, after graduating, she worked at Dr. Martens assistant managing the Covent Garden flagship store. Hanging up her 1490 boots, she then headed to Acton at indie label Cooking Vinyl, giving her first industry internship:- overlord of the reception, making tea and scanning legal contracts – then a full time role in accounts for eight months assisting the finance director. Sister distribution company Essential Music & Marketing’s (now Red Essential) label management team happily took her under their wing and made her their very first label assistant, couple of months in, she was label managing Cherry Red Records and The Orchard’s physical releases, then becoming a fully-fledged label manager in charge of Napalm, Cooking Vinyl, Snapper Music, Fierce Panda, and Sumerian Records. Three and a half years later she moved across to the “darkside” from indie to major, and joined Warner Music’s artist and label services division, ADA. Her roster now encompasses thirty domestic and international labels, and artist services, such as Motörhead, ZZ Top, Earache, Mascot Label Group, Relapse, Epitaph/ANTI, Rise Records, Marshall (Amplification) Records, Sumerian, Deathwish, Cacophonous, Run For Cover and many more. Two years in, she’s contributed to the ADA UK team winning Music Week Awards’ 2016 and 2017’s Best Artist & Label Services category, featured in 2016 Music Week’s 30 under 30, and achieved five Top 10 charting albums including her first no.1 charting album with blink-182’s California. Besides music, she has trained at London School of Lucha Libre’s wrestling academy for three and a half years, and currently a few months in her MMA training and practicing Vinyasa and yoga Nidra.

“I am beyond honoured to sit alongside an esteemed panel of judges for the Heavy Music Awards. Us heavy music folk can come from different walks of life: ages, cultures and backgrounds…forever united by our shared love of the same bands that brought us together whether it be a gig, festival, or awesome event such as this. No community quite feels like our community – I am so stoked that the HMAs is happening so we can all celebrate such a wealth of talent across the board. Born To Lose, Live To Win.”
