Like many of his peers, Ajay’s passion for music began in early childhood where his aptitude won him a musical scholarship which eventually led him to begin a career in music as a drummer. Along the way, he gained a degree in Commercial Music at University of Westminster and eventually went on to tour the world with various musicians, including a brief stint in a heavy metal band with the HMA’s very own Dave Bradley. After taking a break from playing in his 20s, Ajay then found his rhythm again, only this time through his other great passion – graphic design. With his love of music now intrinsically linked with his design skillset, his strong portfolio of work and industry contacts across the globe opened up opportunities to work with many major lifestyle brands. Including Apple, New Era, and The Extreme Sports Company, where he more recently received an award nomination for his collaborative project with multinational company Dewalt Tools. It is a lifetime’s relationship with music and solid experience in design that has driven Ajay both personally and professionally to present day, which now allows him the privilege of being a member of the HMAs judging panel.
“It’s so important to me to be able to give something back to the industry that stood me in good stead for life. It’s shaped me in so many ways and continues to do so with many up and coming artists the world over. I feel like I’m part of a wider family of talented individuals with an intense drive for doing what they love. And in return, I wanted to support these guys in any way I could. Being a judge for the HMAs is my way of pitching in and hopefully being part of the reason someone’s dreams and aspirations are finally recognised.”
